The Peking Union Medical College Hospital has successfully completed the endoscopic surgical robot operation through retroperitoneal approach

On November 20th, Zhigang Ji, professor of Urology Department of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, and his team successfully completed the resection of adrenal tumor by a domestic endoscopic surgical robot through posterior abdominal approach. The success of this case indicated that the domestic endoscopic surgical robot system has made some progress in the key technologies of mechanical design, master-slave control, stereoscopic image and system integration, etc. The self-developed endoscopic surgical robot control system can be "competent" for this kind of narrow space operation through the retroperitoneal approach.

The tumor of the patient was close to the inferior vena cava, which was difficult to operate. After careful evaluation, Prof. Zhigang Ji and his medical team decided to conduct robotic surgery and chose the posterior abdominal approach. However, the comprehensive cost of using the imported robotic surgical system is higher, and the domestic KangDuo Robot (the product of Sagebot) has been approved by the FDA surgical indication. The urological surgery team decided to use the domestic KangDuo Robot to carry out the operation after fully analyzing and evaluating the safety of the domestic KangDuo Robot surgical system. On the basis of the full knowledge and signed informed consent of the patient, the urological expert team led by Prof. Zhigang Ji and Associate Prof. Weifeng Xu, the chief nurse team of the operating room Huizhen Wang and the head nurse team of Shengjie Zhang, and the head nurse team of the disinfection supply room Qing Zhang  cooperated closely during the operation after repeated running-in and rehearsal, successfully removed the tumor and the patient recovered well. The patient was discharged from the hospital just three days after the operation.

The high quality, safety and cost-effective quality of "Made in China" have been recognized by all walks of life in recent years. The success of the endoscopic surgical robot in this case marks a successful attempt by the Department of Urology of Peking Union Medical College Hospital to combine the "domestic" medical equipment with advanced medical technology. The continuous innovation and exploration of the Union people over the years has also injected full impetus and confidence for the application of domestic advanced equipment in more clinical practice and service for more patients.
