The first group of domestic endoscopic surgical robot upper urinary tract repair operation has been successfully carried out in Peking University First Hospital

On August 7, 2020, Prof. Xuesong Li, deputy director of the Department of Urology of Peking University First Hospital successfully conducted the first group of domestic surgical robot assisted upper urinary tract repair surgery for two patients with pyeloureteral junction obstruction. The patients recovered well after the operation. The hallmark of the delicate operation of the upper urinary tract is the upper urinary tract repair surgery, of which pyeloplasty is the most common.

Aiming at the highest level in the medical instrument industry, our country independently developed a domestic surgical robot system –KangDuo Endoscopic Surgical robot control system (the product of Sagebot). As a leader in the domestic industry, the Department of Urology of Peking University First Hospital decided to be the first pilot in China, and selected two patients with upper urinary tract repair for surgery.

The operation was fully supported by the hospital, the nursing team in the operating room and the Department of anesthesiology. Liqun Zhou, the director of the Institute of Urology, Peking University, Qian Zhang, the deputy director, and Li Mu, the deputy director of the nursing department and the head nurse of the operating room Department, gave on-site guidance to KangDuo Robot surgery. On the day of surgery, one of the UPJO patients had ectopic blood vessels. The surgical team also applied 3D visualization technology for intraoperative navigation, ensuring accurate operation and significantly improving surgical safety. KangDuo surgical robot system has the characteristics of modular ultra-high-definition three-dimensional vision, which is convenient for anatomical structure identification, precise control of mechanical arm, and flexibility beyond human hands, etc. It is especially suitable for functional reconstruction surgery of such tissues and organs. The successful implementation of the first group of operations represents that the precision operation of domestic surgical robots has reached a high level. The successful implementation of this domestic robotic surgery marks that the Department of Urology in our hospital, as the pioneer of domestic endoscopic robotic surgery, has greatly promoted the development of domestic surgical robots, committed to breaking the monopoly position of imported products, improving the overall level of domestic high-end medical equipment, and truly benefiting the people. At the same time, it has made an epoch-making contribution in the development of domestic robot surgery system.
